Storyline
Envy (2004) centers on best friends and co-workers Tim Dingman and Nick Vanderpark, whose lives diverge dramatically when Nick invents "Vapoorize," a spray that makes dog feces instantly disappear. Tim dismisses the idea and declines to invest, only to watch Nick become fabulously wealthy overnight. As Nick's success grows—with a mansion across the street and lavish generosity—Tim's resentment festers into full-blown envy, leading to increasingly desperate and absurd actions. A mysterious drifter named J-Man encourages Tim's downward spiral, culminating in chaotic consequences that force both friends to confront the destructive power of jealousy.
Why It’s Our Vibe
Envy pairs Ben Stiller's neurotic everyman with Jack Black's manic energy in a dark satire on success, friendship, and materialism that leans hard into absurd, poop-centered humor. Directed by Barry Levinson, it features a quirky supporting turn from Christopher Walken and early roles for Rachel Weisz and Amy Poehler. Though it bombed critically and commercially upon release, its offbeat premise and over-the-top escalation make it a cult oddity for fans of early-2000s black comedies willing to embrace the cringe and chaos.
