Born on April 1, 1920, in Qingdao, China, to Japanese parents, Toshiro Mifune grew up in Dalian before moving to Japan at the age of 21. After serving in the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service during World War II, Mifune joined Toho Studios, where his acting career began.
Toshiro Mifune first gained international recognition for his role in Akira Kurosawa's "Rashomon" (1950). He continued to collaborate with Kurosawa on several iconic films, including "Seven Samurai" (1954), "Throne of Blood" (1957), "Yojimbo" (1961), and "Red Beard" (1965).
