STAFF REVIEW:

If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) is a beautifully crafted film that captures the essence of James Baldwin's novel with grace and sensitivity. Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film is visually stunning, with lush cinematography by James Laxton that enhances its emotional depth. The performances are outstanding, particularly from KiKi Layne as Tish and Stephan James as Fonny, whose chemistry brings their characters' love and struggles to life. Regina King delivers a standout performance as Tish's mother, earning her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film's evocative score by Nicholas Britell complements its tender and heartbreaking narrative. If Beale Street Could Talk is a moving portrayal of love and resilience in the face of injustice.
