STORYLINE:

Darkest Hour (2017) is set during the early days of World War II when the fate of Western Europe hangs in the balance. As the unstoppable Nazi forces advance, and with the Allied army cornered on the beaches of Dunkirk, the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill faces a critical decision: negotiate a peace treaty with Nazi Germany or stand firm and fight for the ideals, liberty, and freedom of a nation. Against all odds and amidst political opposition, Churchill rallies a nation to fight for its future.

STAFF REVIEW:

Darkest Hour (2017) is a compelling historical drama that showcases Gary Oldman’s transformative performance as Winston Churchill. Directed by Joe Wright, the film provides an intimate look at Churchill’s internal struggles and pivotal moments during a critical period in British history. The film’s atmospheric cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel and the stirring score by Dario Marianelli add to the tension and drama. The supporting cast, including Kristin Scott Thomas as Clementine Churchill and Lily James as Elizabeth Layton, delivers strong performances that enhance the narrative. Darkest Hour is a powerful portrayal of leadership and resilience in the face of overwhelming adversity.
