STORYLINE:

The Post (2017) recounts the true story of the Washington Post's role in exposing the Pentagon Papers in 1971. When a government cover-up spanning three decades and four U.S. Presidents is uncovered, the newspaper's first female publisher, Katharine Graham, and its volatile editor, Ben Bradlee, must decide whether to risk their careers and freedom to bring the truth to light. As they face fierce opposition from the government and wrestle with their own ethical dilemmas, Graham and Bradlee must navigate a precarious path to uphold the integrity of the free press.

STAFF REVIEW:

The Post (2017) is a compelling and timely drama that highlights the importance of press freedom and the courage required to defend it. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film features outstanding performances from Meryl Streep as Katharine Graham and Tom Hanks as Ben Bradlee. Streep's portrayal of Graham's transformation from a hesitant heiress to a decisive leader is particularly powerful. The film's tight pacing, sharp dialogue, and meticulous attention to historical detail create a gripping narrative that resonates with contemporary issues of media and government transparency. The Post is both an inspiring tribute to journalistic bravery and a thought-provoking examination of the power dynamics between the press and the government.
